<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light source device with high luminance in which shortening of a lifetime caused by heat generated from a light source can be prevented and, when using a point light source such as an LED as a light source, even when the lifetime is over due to heat generated from the light source, the light source can be exchanged easily. <P>SOLUTION: The light source unit 10 is constructed of a flexible printed-circuit board 12 mounted with a plurality of point light sources 1 arranged on a metal plate 11. The metal plate 11 is composed of first side portions 13 and a second side portion 14 that is connected to the respective first side portions 13, and presents a U-shape with the angle made by the first side portions 13 and the second side portion 14 being nearly perpendicular.
