[Also in Group XXV] A light fitting comprises a housing and a transparent closure hood, one or both of which are resiliently deformable, outwardly projecting bearing means on the hood and inwardly projecting supporting members in the form of locking springs on the housing, each spring being bent into hairpin shape, one limb being secured to the housing and having an inwardly bent end serving to support the bearing means on the hood and the other to lock the hood to the housing when the fitting is closed. In the form shown, the housing 1, Fig. 2, is divided by a partition 2 into two parts 3, 4, the part 3 housing the terminal contacts, any auxiliary apparatus and the means for securing the lamp to a support. The part 4 has sockets 6, 7 for tubular lamps and is closed by a hood 15 of transparent material having an outwardly turned edge 16 bearing with the interposition of a gasket 19, Fig. 3, on an abutment edge 17 of the housing. Two springs 20 are secured at spaced intervals to the abutment edge 17 on each side of the housing and consist of strip material bent into hair pin shape, one limb 21 being secured to the edge 17 and the free end 23 then turned inwards to engage under the edge 16. The other limb 24 bears against the interior surface of the hood to retain this in place. A tongue 25 may be cut out of the end 23 of the limb 21 for manipulating the spring. |
