The device has an exhaust gas circulating main pipe placed between an inlet tube (6) and an outlet tube (7). A fuel injection unit injects fuel into a vaporizing chamber (11) equipped with a heating rod (9). The chamber is connected to the main pipe by an exhaust gas supply channel (20) and by a fuel vapor evacuation channel (21) that evacuates fuel vapor with exhaust gas. The gas supply channel and the evacuation channel constitute a main pipe by-pass circuit that cooperates with the chamber. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a post-treatment system.
