Class 120(2) A textile drafting mechanism having a pivotally mounted top-roll carrier arm which can be locked in the operating position to a stationary part of the machine and which has, for each associated top roll, a guide arm so mounted as to permit pivotal movement thereof transversely to the plane of the drafting field and through which weighting pressure is transmitted to the top roll, at least one such guide arm being mounted in a manner permitting it to perform a lateral swing- ing movement parallel to the plane of the drafting field in addition to its pivotal movement, is modified so that the guide arm is supported in the carrier arm by a pair of retaining members mounted directly (or indirectly through a holder) in the guide arm (or the holder) and has point or line contact with the retaining members to permit the lateral swinging movement, and the weighting means partakes of this latter movement. In the mechanism of Fig. 1, a stirrup 4 comprises pivot pins 7 as retaining members embraced by tongues 8 on a holder 9 which carries on arms 91 a pivot pin 10 receiving a guide arm 11 constructed as a saddle support for top roll 13, a "weighting" spring 15 being seated at 14 and 141. The swing of arm 11 about pivot 10 is limited by engagement of an abutment 17 with stop lug 18. Lateral swinging parallel to the plane of the drafting field by holder 9 (together with spring 15) is permitted by reception of ribs 81 in recesses in pins 7, so that roll 13 may automatically align with its axis parallel to axis of bottom roll 16. Stirrups 4 adjacent to support bar 1 pivot only transversely to the plane of the field. In another mechanism, Fig. 2, arm 2 mounts pivot pins 22 recesses of which are engaged by ribs 231 of tongues 23 to permit the lateral swinging of holder 21. A spring 25 is seated, at 26 and 261, between holder 21 and the guide arm 28 pivotal movement of which (following release of a locking device 3) is limited by engagement of hooked lugs 29 under a web 30. Guide arms 28 adjacent to bar 1 are each pivoted on a pin 32 in a holder 33 and springs 251 rest against seatings in holder 33 and guide arm 281 the swing of which is limited by engagement with holder at 34. In the mechanism shown in Fig. 4, adjustable stirrups 4 each mount pivot pins 7 engaged by ribs 36 of tongues in guide arms 35 to permit the latter to swing laterally. The resiliency of the arms 35 permits pivoting of the limb carrying the top roll transversely to the plane of the drafting field, this movement being limited by coacting slot 37 and loop 39 which reaches under lug 38. This resiliency also applies "weighting" pressure (to the top roll) which may be augmented by a leaf spring 40 or helical springs, Figs. 6 and 9 (not shown), especially for the arm remote from bar 1.
