The electrode (1) for a plasma burner, comprises an electrode housing (2) and an electrode core (3), where the electrode is cooled by a fluid. A lateral side and a radial side surface of the electrode core are in contact with a coolant (7). The electrode core disposes on its end touching the coolant over a chamfer. The electrode core consists of hafnium, copper, silver or its alloy. A connection is formed between the electrode housing and the electrode core as interference fit. An independent claim is included for a method for mounting an electrode core in passage hole of an electrode housing.
