PURPOSE: An ice breaking device using a free-falling weight is provided to break ice at an extremely-low temperature and control the rotating direction of a ship by the rotation of an ice breaking device. CONSTITUTION: An ice breaking device(100) using a free-falling weight comprises a hinge unit(120), a seesaw beam, an ice breaking weight(160) and a driving unit. The hinge unit rotates the seesaw beam The seesaw beam is installed by a connecting unit(130) on the hinge unit to be able to make seesaw movement. The front end of the seesaw beam is protruded to the outer part of fore part. The ice breaking weight is suspended on the front end of the seesaw beam. The driving unit controls the movement of the seesaw beam so that the ice breaking weight can fall free.
