PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire that achieves both abrasion resistance and wet skid performances particularly together with enhanced heat ageing resistance, retains these performances over a long period of time until the last stage of abrasion, and is excellent also in processability, a low-fuel consumption property and steering stability, and a pneumatic tire using the same. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tire comprises a rubber component, silica, sulfur and a compound represented by formula (I), where silica has a CTAB specific surface area of at least 180 m<SP>2</SP>/g and a BET specific surface area of at least 185 m<SP>2</SP>/g. In the formula, A is a 2-10C alkylene group; and R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are the same or different and are each a monovalent organic group containing a nitrogen atom. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
