<p>Disclosed is a beam irradiation apparatus, which can shape a beam into a beam having an extremely small diameter that has not been conventionally achieved, and controls the beam diameter with high accuracy, and furthermore, controls the beam range and the beam trajectory. Also disclosed is a beam irradiation control method, whereby the range of the irradiation field on the subject to be irradiated with the beam can be highly accurately controlled. The beam irradiation apparatus is composed of: a transfer pipe, which is to be a transfer path for the beam taken out from an accelerator, and which has been subjected to vacuum; a quadrupole magnet, which controls the beam diameter such that the beam is inputted to the subject in the atmosphere, while maintaining a convergent angle; and one or more movable range shifters, which are provided at a variable distance from the subject, and control the beam range by reducing the beam energy by passing through the beam. The beam irradiation apparatus controls the beam diameter and the beam range, and radiates the beam to the subject.</p> |
