The present invention relates to a method for producing Y-type ferrite and to Y-type ferrite produced thereby. Provided is Y-type ferrite having a compositional formula such as Ba2Co2-xZnxFe12O22, wherein the range for the value of x is 0.5 = x = 1.5. The present invention has the advantage that Y-type ferrite can be used as a raw material for communications devices where a high frequency band is required, since it makes it possible to produce Y-type ferrite having a magnetic permeability of at least 2 even in high frequency bands of more than 1 GHz by replacing some of the cobalt ions contained in Y-type ferrite with zinc ions.
