PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for determining knocking of an internal combustion engine, increasing the opportunity for highly accurate knocking determination in the internal combustion engine having a driving system with driving timing variable to a crank angle and allowing efficient operation of the internal combustion engine, to provide a device for controlling knocking of the internal combustion engine, using the device for determining knocking of the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: In a high noise condition (NO at S116), a 7 kHz mode (S126) starts and as compared with a normal mode (S118), weighting to the frequency range of intake valve seating noise is reduced relatively to the other frequency ranges. This allows continuation of highly accurate knocking determination. When the high noise condition is not caused by a variable valve train, as the high noise condition is not eliminated even by increasing the weighting to the 7 kHz range, for the first time at this time, the mode is shifted to a superposition avoiding mode (S138) for shifting intake valve closing timing. Thus, the mode is not immediately shifted to the superposition avoiding mode in the high noise condition, the opportunity for highly accurate knocking determination can be increased and the internal combustion engine can be operated efficiently.
