The internal combustion engine has an intake tract, an exhaust gas tract, an air filter, a regulating- and control unit, a burner (6) and a fuel supply unit communicating with the burner. The fuel supply unit comprises a pressure sensor (8) and a regulating device (12). The internal combustion engine also comprises a pulsation damper, a valve, particularly non-return valve (17) and an oxidation catalyst or a diesel particle filter. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an internal combustion engine.
