A method of measuring the thickness distribution of a deposited layer of coating material, the method including: adapting the shape of a flexible test sheet so that the flexible test sheet has a curved test surface representative of a curved surface of a component; depositing vaporised coating material on the curved test surface of the flexible test sheet to form a layer of coating material on the curved test surface of the flexible test sheet; and measuring a parameter representative of the thickness of the deposited layer of coating material at two or more locations on the test surface of the flexible test sheet.
