786,456. Magnetic tool holders. ECKOLD, W. Oct. 6, 1955 [June 13, 1955], No. 28566/55. Class 60. [Also in Group XXII] Metal working apparatus has a magnetic tool holder the contact surfaces of the holder and of the tool, or a clamp therefor, being such that the tool, or the clamp therefor, may be pulled away in a direction at right angles to the working stroke of the machine. Permanent magnets 11 let in the base of a fixed member 10 have spherical recesses 12. A tool 14 has a number of symmetrically arranged cylindrical holes which contain steel balls 13, the ends of the holes being tapered to retain the balls. When the tool 14 is correctly positioned on the member 10 the balls 13 are held in the recesses 12. Some of the recesses may not be magnetic in which case the balls may be spring-loaded. |
