PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that obtains high-accuracy information on a distance between a subject and the apparatus while preventing an increase in scale and cost, and obtaining an image in accordance with the distance information, and an imaging method. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus has: an imaging element 20 in which a plurality of pixels are arrayed, each pixel having a photoelectric conversion function; a light guide section 30 including a plurality of optical system windows 32C, 32U, 32B, 32R, 32L for guiding light from a subject to each of pixels of the imaging element; and a signal processing section 40 for performing signal processing based on imaging information of the imaging element. The signal processing section 40 determines distance information of the subject based on the imaging information of the imaging element, and produces an image corresponding to a distance of the subject on the basis of the distance information.
