<p>PURPOSE: An air conditioner and an operating method thereof are provided to enhance the reliability on the failure sensing of an outdoor expansion valve since after a heating operation becomes stable, the failure of the outdoor expansion valve is sensed. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises a freezing cycle circuit(2), a control unit, and an information output unit. The freezing cycle circuit comprises compressors(12,13), a cooling/heating switch valve(22), outdoor and indoor heat exchangers(14,20) and outdoor and indoor expansion valves(16,18). If at least one of the high pressure and low pressure of the freezing cycle circuit, a degree of discharge, and the discharge temperature of a compressor gets out of a reference range after the heating operation of the freezing cycle circuit starts and the freezing cycle circuit becomes stable, then the control unit outputs the failure signal of the outdoor expansion valve.</p> |
