PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a component identification system, component identification method, and component to be identified which enable easy and reliable sorting when a different kind of component is included. SOLUTION: The component identification system includes a component to be identified having a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) element whose characteristics vary with a voltage applied thereto, and an identification device including voltage application means applying a voltage, detection means detecting the characteristics of the PTC element, and determination means determining whether the characteristics detected by the detection means match with characteristics stored beforehand. The system further includes switching means controlling on/off of the application of the voltage by the voltage application means, and control means controlling on/off timing of the switching means, wherein it is determined whether a variation pattern of the characteristics of the PTC element originating from a plurality of on/off actions matches with a characteristic variation pattern stored beforehand.
