A method of imparting colour-coating properties to flame-spraying rods comprises the steps of immersing a previously fired porous, stable metal oxide rod, e.g. of alumina or zirconia, in a solution of a compound of vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron cobalt or nickel or a mixture of such compounds until the pores of the rod are impregnated with the solution, said compound or mixture of compounds being selected according to the colourcoating property desired and then evaporating the solvent to leave the compound or mixture in the pores as a residue. The solvent may be water or methanol. The coated rods may be dried by heating and used to coat surfaces as described in Specification 745,257. Compounds specified are the chlorides, sulphates, nitrates, fluorides, bromides, iodides, acetates, perchlorates, chlorates and oxides of the abovementioned elements.
|
