Condensation and polymerization products are made by a process which comprises subjecting to polymerizing conditions a polymerizable liquid charge in a reactor fitted with a condenser capable of condensing the whole of the vapour delivered from the reactor at any time and of returning the condensed liquid directly to the reactor whilst maintaining the temperature within the reactor at the desired temperature by means of a thermostatically controlled heater. Specified materials which may be included in the charge are vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, methyl methacrylate, styrene or mixtures thereof, anethol, vinyl acetate, acrylic acid, mono and diolefines, phenol or urea or melamine formaldehyde together with solvents or dispersing agents such as water, methyl alcohol or acetone.ALSO:Process and apparatus for polymerization comprises subjecting to polymerization conditions, a liquid charge in a reactor attached to a condenser which is capable of condensing the whole of the vapour delivered from the reactor at any time and of returning the condensed liquid direct to the reactor whilst maintaining the charge at the desired temperature by a thermostatically controlled heater. |
