The present invention relates to a method for assessing the sensitisation capability of a compound, and use of gene products and nucleic acid molecules in such a method. The method comprises the steps of bringing said compound into contact with a cell,and analysing the expression of at leastone of the genes BIN1, JAM2, DST, CLU, CX43, MST1R, and CXCL10 and / or its gene products in said cell,wherein said compound is assessed as having a sensitisation capability if the expression of at least one of said genes and / or its gene products is modulated in the presence of said compound. Additionally, the method may comprise analysing the expression of at least one of the genes MT1G, IL-8, IL-1beta and NQO1 in said cell.
