PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device that finely adjusts image quality in accordance with a content playback method. SOLUTION: The video display device 10 includes: a recording mode detecting section 39 for recording video signals of contents in accordance with any one of a plurality of recording modes and detecting the recording mode; a bit rate detecting section 40 for detecting a bit rate for reproducing the video signals; a video signal processing section 41 for performing video processing on the video signals in accordance with both the recording mode and the bit rate which have been detected; and a display control section 21 for reproducing the video signals processed by the video signal processing section 41 and displaying the video signals on a screen.
