PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of an oil mist separator by keeping speed when gas is impacted against an impact wall constant without depending on a flow rate of gas passed through the oil mist separator. SOLUTION: In this oil mist separator 1, when the pressure of blow-by gas led to flow into a volumetric chamber 14 is increased, a valve element 15 is slidably moved, and the portion covered with the sidewall 17 of the valve element 15, of a hole 25 formed in one end 11a of a volumetric chamber 11 on the side of a lower casing, is reduced. That is, the passage cross-sectional area of a communication hole 26 is increased/reduced according to a blow-by gas flow rate, and the flow speed of the blow-by gas released from the communication hole 26 is kept substantially constant regardless of the blow-by gas flow rate. Therefore, when the blow-by gas is impacted against the impact wall 7, it is possible to stably separate an oil component in the blow-by gas. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
