PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect minute defects occurring in a metal member, such as high-chromium steel. SOLUTION: A method of inspecting defects in a metal member includes: the process of acquiring a first waveform by transmitting first ultrasonic waves to the inside of an inspection target, namely a metal member, and by receiving reflection waves of the first ultrasonic waves; the process of acquiring a second waveform by transmitting second ultrasonic waves of a reverse phase to that of the first ultrasonic waves to the inside of the inspection target, and by receiving reflection waves of the second ultrasonic waves; and the process of acquiring a third waveform obtained by compositing the first and second waveforms to detect defects existing in the inspection target based on the third waveform.
