PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a droplet observation apparatus for detecting a colorless droplet, and to provide a culture observation apparatus with the same. SOLUTION: The observation apparatus of the invention includes an illuminator for illuminating a transparent member (30) formed with the transparent droplet (30a) by a surface light source (52) having a bright/dark pattern finer than the droplet, an imager (54) for capturing an image transmitted through the member illuminated by the surface light source, and a calculator for detecting an area in which the image of the droplet is formed in the bright/dark image based on a pattern of the bright/dark image obtained by an image capture of the imager.
