PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating engine which enhances the transmission efficiency of force. SOLUTION: The reciprocating engine has a piston 2 reciprocated in a cylinder liner 8 with the piston 2 and a connecting rod 3 connected by a piston pin 4 and with the connecting rod 3 and a crank 5 connected by a crank pin 6. An inclination of the cylinder liner 8 is set so that the flow line La of the piston center passes through a piston pin position P<SB>TDC</SB>at the top dead center and is inclined to a counter-thrust side from the bottom dead center toward the top dead center.
