摘要 845,893. Coiling textile sliver. McDONOUGH POWER EQUIPMENT Inc. Oct. 26, 1956 [Oct. 28, 1955], No. 32638/56. Class 120(3). A sliver-coiler comprises a vertical column 12, carrying at its upper and lower ends, supports 54, Fig. 1 and 86, Fig. 4 on which are respectively mounted to rotate, a coiler-tube gear 42 and a can-table 96, both supports being separately angularly adjustable in a horizontal plane relatively to the column. There is provision, too, for adjusting the position of the cantable relative to the column. Each support is carried by a plug 58 or 88 rotatable in the column and fixable by set screws 60, 90. The column houses a shaft 18 driven by bevel gears from a horizontal shaft which enters the column centrally from left or right: the shaft has upper and lower bevels 40, 44 respectively driving the coiler tube gear and the can table. In the former case the bevel 40 meshes with teeth 56 Fig. 3 (not shown) on the coiler gear which has spaced rollers 80 running on an inclined surface of the support 54; a track for engaging rollers 74 on a stationary cover 68; and a support 62 for a coiler-tube 64 communicating with an aperture in the gear. In the case of the can table 96, the drive from the bevel gear 44 is through a worm shaft 48, the worm engaging a toothed wheel 95 by which the can-table is carried. The gear wheel 95 is carried by a bearing 122 in a member 114 which is bolted to the floor of a gear-guard 94 which is itself bolted to the support 86. The guard has spaced rollers 99 on which the can table can run; a bearing for the worm shaft; and a wide central aperture for the shaft 124 of the gear wheel which can be changed to permit different speeds of coiling. To allow for the transmission of the drive whatever the diameter of the gear-wheel employed, the worm shaft leaves the plug 88 through an arcuate slot and the position of the worm is adjustable on its shaft. The bolts by which the guard 94 is secured to the support 86 and the member 114 to the guard pass through slots to permit the can table to be radially adjusted with respect to the column to allow cans of varying sizes to be used. In an alternative form Fig. 9, the worm is replaced by a chain drive, the drive being from a sprocket 174 driven from gearing which is interchangeable to provide various speeds of drive. Slots 182, 184, 186 in the guard 180 each have two arms to permit the apparatus to be adjusted for cans of different sizes in the case of either a left or righthand power take-off drive. Specification 845,894 is referred to.
