1,142,933. Transparent glass laminates. P.P.G. INDUSTRIES Inc. 24 Feb., 1966 [24 Feb., 1965], No. 8079/66. Heading B5N. A laminated glass article comprises a glass layer bonded to another layer of transparent material e.g. of glass or plastics material by a layer of a polyurethane reaction product of a poly(oxypolymethylene)glycol, an organic polyisocyanate and a curing agent containing at least two active hydrogen atoms per molecule, the poly(oxypolymethylene)glycol containing oxypolymethylene groups in which a linear chain of from 3 to 6 carbon atoms separate each pair of adjacent oxygen atoms, with the proviso that when the poly(oxypolymethylene) glycol is a poly(oxytetramethylene glycol) and the polyisocyanate is a diisocyanate, the curing agent is not (1) a polyamine or (2) a polyol containing at least 3 labile hydrogen atoms and a diol. The polyurethane layer may be plasticized. Many suitable polyurethane forming reactants are specified and prepolymers of the glycol and polyisocyanate may be used. The outer layers of the laminate may be coated with metal oxides to produce transparent films which reflect heat rays.
|
