PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packing apparatus the handling of which is improved by imparting combined functions for product transport and empty tray return and by simplifying the structure, thereby preventing drawbacks such as deformation due to a load applied by products. SOLUTION: In the packing apparatus 1, first and second trays 3 and 4 accommodating products P are alternately stacked on a pallet 2 on sending, and the same first and second trays 3 and 4 that are empty are stacked on the pallet 2 to be return. The first and second trays 3 and 4 are obtained by integral molding and include: a product accommodating portion 6 having a cushioning function and a holding function, which holds product P; and leg portions 9 extending from the flat walls 7 of the periphery of the product accommodating portion 6 so that the lower ends of these leg portions 9 are located below the bottom of the product accommodating portion 6. While the first and second trays 3 and 4 are stacked on sending, the leg portions 9 of the tray contact the flat walls 7 of the tray located below this tray and thereby holds the load of the product P. When the first and second trays 3 and 4 are stacked on returning, the product accommodating portion 6 and part of leg portions 9 of the tray enter the product accommodating portion 6 and leg portions of the tray located below this tray.
