PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism interlocking the separating/connecting movement of two carriages and connecting/connection canceling movement of a driving force transmitting means for the raising/lowering movement of a recording head and to compactly constitute the whole mechanism by relating the raising/lowering means of the recording head to make an image forming device compact and simple. SOLUTION: The head raising/lowering driving connecting means 23R of the first carriage 5 is connected to the other end part 18L of the second recording head raising/lowering connecting means of the second carriage 6 to establish a connecting condition where the drive for raising and lowering the head can be transmitted, the image forming apparatus has a housing connecting means 41 by which the housing condition where the connection is canceled can be established, the housing connecting movement of the head raising/lowering driving connecting means 23R of the first carriage by the housing/connecting means is interlocked with the connecting/canceling movement of the first carriage 5 and the second carriage 6 by the connecting/canceling means 49.
