PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth retaining structure which is sufficiently equipped with strength against earth pressure and which can keep a construction cost low. SOLUTION: Characteristically, this earth retaining structure includes a plurality of thinned logs which are made of a long material and vertically stacked in a horizontal state, a holding frame body 5 which makes the plurality of thinned logs 4 held in the state of being each stacked in the horizontal state, and an anchor means 3 which is coupled to the holding frame body 5 and buried in fill 20 behind the plurality of thinned logs 4 held by the holding frame body 5. The holding frame body 5 includes a backside supporting body 6 which is vertically elongated along a backside, housing the fill 20, of each thinned log 4, a front-side supporting body 7 which is vertically elongated along a front side on the other side of the backside of each thinned log 4, and a coupling means 8 which couples the backside and front-side supporting bodies 6 and 7 together and to which the anchor means 3 is coupled.
