<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique impossible for glass and single crystals by not applying the conventional glass and single crystals only comprising a part of terbium oxide but applying a polycrystal terbium oxide sintered compact having excellent translucency to this field. <P>SOLUTION: The translucent terbium oxide sintered compact for a magneto-optical element is composed of a cubic crystal system polycrystal sintered compact essentially consisting of Tb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, in which porosity is ≤0.2%, each in-line transmittance per length of 3 mm in 1.06 μm and 532 nm wavelengths is ≥70%, and Tb<SP>3+</SP>ions are comprised by 2×10<SP>22</SP>pieces or more per cm<SP>3</SP>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
