PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet folding device having a mechanism for maintaining high productivity without causing wrinkles with low pressure. SOLUTION: The sheet folding device includes a folding mechanism having a sheet carrying part consisting of sheet carrying passages 161-163 and a sheet carrier, and a folding roller mechanism part consisting of a pair of folding rollers arranged on the downstream side in the carrying direction of the sheet carrying part for folding carried sheets. Since it includes the folding mechanism having the sheet carrying part having a charge applying mechanism portion 191 formed of a dielectric for applying charges to the sheets right before folded, and a charger 181 for applying charges to the dielectric, the charge applying mechanism portion applies charges to the sheets being carried to closely contacting the opposite faces of the folded sheets with each other with electrostatic attraction, thus actualizing a lower folding height without lowering productivity and causing wrinkles.
