PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arrangement structure of a breather in a gear device for a rolling stock which realizes better oil leakage resistance and a simpler structure by adopting a breather having a structure utilizing negative pressure generated by rotating operation of a gear as compared with a breather having a conventional structure. SOLUTION: A gear box lid (a)2 is formed so as to surround a gear (a)4, and horizontally provided with a ventilation hole for a breather outward from a vicinity of a pitch circle of the gear 4.
