<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical position detector which can detect the position of a subject over a wide range, and to provide a display device having a position-detecting function equipped with the optical position detector. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical position detector 10, a light source unit 120, wherein light-emitting elements 12 for forming light intensity distribution are arranged in X-axis and Y-axis directions is disposed on one side of a detection area 10R. A position detecting light L2, consisting of infrared lights emitted from the light-emitting elements 12 forms the light intensity distribution of the detecting light L2 in the detection region 10R, and thereby detecting a light L3 which is reflected by the target object Ob can be detected with a photodetector 30.
