The element i.e. kneading compressor (12), has a convex rounded surface (13) rolled on a bituminous paving material (4), where the element is held at a mechanically supporting frame (15) in a pivotably movable manner and arranged upstream of a screed (2) in a driving direction (6). A driving device is connected in the area of an edge of the element, where the edge lies outside with respect to the frame. The driving device comprises an actuating plunger (20), which is fastened to the element in a pivotably movable manner. An independent claim is also included for a road finisher to produce a pavement surface from a bituminous paving material, comprising a compression element.
