The present invention provides a mounting system for mounting one or more solar panels (S), comprising: a support frame (2) having a plurality of frame members (3) adapted to be arranged spaced apart and substantially parallel to one another on a substantially flat rooftop surface (R), wherein the frame members (3) provide a panel mounting area (A) which is inclined relative to a horizontal plane for supporting solar panels (S) extending between the frame members (3); and mounting rails (7) positioned on and extending transverse to the frame members (3), wherein the mounting rails (7) delimit upper and lower edge regions of the inclined panel mounting area (A) on the support frame (2). The support frame (2) is substantially closed across a rear extent of the mounting system (1) below the upper edge region of the panel mounting area (A) by a surface (14) for directing wind over solar panels (S) in the inclined panel mounting area (A). Furthermore, the support frame (2) provides an opening (15) across a substantial frontal extent of the mounting system (1) below the lower edge region of the panel mounting area (A), such that the opening (15) communicates with a space under the solar panels (S).
