[Also in Division D1] A package support comprises a core 6 for axial insertion into the centre of a package, and an inflatable sheath 8 carried by the core. The sheath, of, for example, natural or synthetic rubber, may be formed by folding two ends of a rubber tube inwardly and sticking them together. The sheath is inflated and deflated through a thread sleeve 16, connected via a flexible tube 15 in a connector plate 3 with a valve 11 in holes 10, 9 in the rigid tube 6 and sheath 8. At the end of the tube 6 is a solid or apertured plug 7 with a flange 7a to retain the end of the sheath. A resilient ring may be fitted in a groove (not shown) in the plug to provide a tight fit with the tube 6. Alternatively a cap fitting over the end of the tube may replace the plug.</p> |
