The shaft (1) is provided in a bearing area (2) with a diamond like carbon (DLC)-layer (4) that reduces the friction and the wear. The shaft in the bearing area has a bulge which is formed in convex shape. The DLC-layer is manufactured by physical vapor deposition-process or plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition-process. An independent claim is also included for a bearing arrangement for bearing a shaft.
