[Also in Division G5] A sign element comprises a face 1 of sheet metal having an edge shape of the required element and a metal side wall 2 having a narrow flange 3 which is spot-welded to the face. Two supporting side walls having flanges may be welded to the face. As shown, for example, in Fig. 5, the sign may be illuminated from the front by a tubular lamp 5. In an alternative construction, one face of the sign is transparent or translucent and the sign is illuminated from behind the face. The dimensions of the flanges on the side walls are such that any bending of the flange which occurs when the wall is bent to conform with the profile of the face plate, does not prevent its fixing by spot-welding to the face plate.
