PURPOSE: A light attenuating device of an LCD(liquid crystal display) and a smart mirror for a vehicles using the same is provided to control a light transmittance, a light reflectivity, a reaction speed according to change of a ambient light by the reaction speed and a gray scale of LCD. CONSTITUTION: A light attenuating device of an LCD comprises: an LCD panel and a power supply unit. The LCD panel comprises one or more a liquid crystal cells(100) and the power supply unit supplies an electric field to the LCD panel. The liquid crystal cell comprises a liquid crystal layer(110) and two substrate layers(120,130). The liquid crystal layer fills mixture of a nematic liquid crystal(112) with negative dielectric anisotropy, a chiral material(114), and a positive dichroic dye(113). The positive dichroic dye re-arranged with nematic liquid crystal according to the supply state of an electric field, penetrates or absorbs the light.
