The present invention refers to a system and method for drying the deposit of a cooking oven, which comprises a deposit (2) for storing water used for vapour cooking, a heater (3) able to heat the water up to the total evaporation thereof, an interface for the user (6), which warns the user of any residual water within the deposit (2), and able to receive a command from the user in order to start the deposit drying, and finally, a control element (5) electrically connected to a level sensor (4) arranged in the deposit (2), the heater (3) and the user interface (6). The system and method are designed for turning the heater (3) on when a residual water level is detected, after the vapour cooking process is finished.
