The present invention refers to a process for the synthesis of chitosan porous membranes by means of a process that does not require the use of the vacuum dry method commonly applied. The process consists in reacting NaHCO3 with organic acid present in the chitosan solution, for example, acetic acid. Said reaction generates CO2, which produces bubbles in the mixture which are trapped due to the high viscosity thereof. The reaction is subsequently introduced in a furnace for drying and trapping the bubbles, in order to form a plurality of porosities in the sample. Once the sample is dried it is submerged into hot water so as to turn the membrane into a water insoluble membrane and remove the rests of NaHCO3 and sodium acetate from the reaction. Finally it is washed with cold distilled water.
