Disclosed is a Stirling engine which can effectively recover heat from an exhaust gas flowing through a flue, and which can connect a heater and a regenerator by means of a working gas tube without providing a passage separation unit. The Stirling engine is characterized by performing any of the following as modes of removing impurities: decreasing the speed of the Stirling engine, halting operation of the Stirling engine, decreasing the amount of electricity generated by the Stirling engine, and reversing rotation of the Stirling engine.
