METHOD FOR JOINING METAL AND PLASTIC WORKPIECES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for joining metal and plastic workpieces allowing lap connection without causing defective points.

SOLUTION: The method for joining a metal workpiece 1 to a plastic workpiece 3 using a joining tool 5 includes steps of: positioning the metal workpiece 1 and the plastic workpiece 3; bringing the front end of a pin 7, a sleeve 9 and an outside clamping ring 11 into contact with an outer surface of the metal workpiece 1; rotating the sleeve 9 and the pin 7 to generate friction between the front ends of the sleeve 9 and the pin 7 and the outer surface of the metal workpiece 1; and separating the pin 7 from the outer surface of the metal workpiece 1 while penetrating the sleeve 9 into the metal workpiece 1. The sleeve 9 is stopped before reaching a contact face of the metal workpiece 1, then the sleeve 9 is separated from the metal workpiece 1 until the front ends of the sleeve 9 and pin 7 become the same level, while the pin 7 is moved toward the outer surface of the metal workpiece 1.
