<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of processing an optical fiber, in which a clad mode removal part is comparatively easily processed with accuracy, and a reliability is improved. <P>SOLUTION: A fiber body 11 is rotated in the circumferential direction around a core 15, and the clad 20 of the rotating fiber body 11 is irradiated with a laser beam. As a result, the clad mode removal part 21 of a ring groove shape is formed on the outer circumferential face of the clad 20. Then, the laser irradiation position for the fiber body 11 is changed in the longitudinal direction of the fiber body 11, so as to irradiate with the laser beam.
