1,019,867. Hooks. MO OCH DOMSJO A.B. Sept. 1, 1964 [Sept. 23, 1963], No. 35757/64. Heading F2H. Two identical sister hooks 1, each with a pair of lugs 7, are pivoted together on a pin 3 (with the lugs interdigitated) so that when the hooks are swung together, flat faces 4 engage each other and a load cable of a winch, crane or tractor is completely encircled. Each hook 1 has a recess 8 adjacent each pair of lugs 7 and the two recesses are aligned for a cable 9, e.g. attached to a log, timber &c., to pass through for securement to the pair of hooks. The cable 9 tends to close the hooks together on no load and an end stop on the cable forces them together on load. The outer faces 5 of the hooks may be completely curved, or only at their inner edges. On each hook, the lug 7 nearer the hook opening 6 may be wider than the other. A number of hooks each attached to a load by a cable 9 may be latched side-by-side on a load cable attached to a winch, crane or tractor, e.g. for use in forestry. A load cable may be secured in the recesses 8 and the hooks encircle the cable elsewhere, to form a lasso loop to enclose a bundle of timber without the use of separate cables 9. The width of the hook openings is 1.2 -1.5 times the load cable diameter and the diameter of the ring formed by the closed hooks is not more than 2.5 times that diameter. |
