The method involves hydraulically connecting a set of hydraulic variable displacement pumps to corresponding hydraulic motors of working components of road finishing machine or feeder. An internal combustion engine i.e. diesel engine, of the machine is operated within an engine-specific characteristic map in response to load condition of the engine by dynamic speed adaptation of the engine. Displacements of each variable displacement pump are simultaneously and automatically adjusted for maintaining volume flow rates of the hydraulic motors constant. An independent claim is also included for a road finishing machine or feeder comprising a primary power plant.
