A sleeve 17, Fig. 4, which clamps a rope sling to form a lifting loop 16 is provided with a casing 20 which fits tightly round the sleeve and allows the parts of the sling to diverge from the sleeve by a controlled amount. The casing may be formed from an aluminium alloy or steel suitably rust-proofed and the sleeve is retained by a pin 14 which passes through the loop. The outer parts of the central bore are curved as at 5, 6, Fig. 1, so that the terminal portions are oval in cross-section. Fig. 5 shows a four-strand sling the loops 25, 26 of which intersect one another so that both loops stay together in the centre of a lifting hook 27. |
