979,173. Heating steam boilers by hot gases. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 20, 1962 [Aug. 21, 1961], No. 30069/61. Heading F4A. A vapour generating apparatus for the recovery of heat from the gases or vapours evolved in a high pressure exothermal chemical process, e.g. the synthesis of ammonia or methanol, comprises a cylindrical pressure vessel 1 containing in its lower part a bank of sinuously bent small bore tubes 6 which are connected in parallel between inlet and outlet headers 4, 5 respectively receiving the hot gas from the reaction vessel and returning cooled gases thereto. The headers and the tube bank are immersed in water in the vessel 1, generated steam discharging therefrom through a separator 9. To prevent chemical corrosion and nitriding of the headers they are lined with liners 10 of steel titanium alloy, ceramics or enamelled metal. A short length of each tube adjacent the inlet header is also provided with a protective liner. In a modification the shell may be horizontally disposed and the heating tubes arranged parallel with its axis. Specifications 533,858, 567,734 and 794,828 are referred to. |
