PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a method of driving the same are provided to maximize an effect of processing sharpness by controlling the level of sharpness in response to the brightness of an image. CONSTITUTION: In a liquid crystal display device and a method of driving the same, a liquid crystal panel(200) shows an image. A sharpness processing unit(400) processes sharpness in a boundary area in which the gradation of the image is changed and adjusts the level of sharpness in response to environment brightness of image brightness . The surrounding environment brightness detection unit(510) detects the surrounding environment brightness. An image analysis part(520) detects the image brightness.
