PURPOSE: A water pump for a vehicle is provided to shorten the activating time of an engine and enhance fuel efficiency since at the initial start of the engine, the circulation of cooling water is actively controlled. CONSTITUTION: A water pump(100) for a vehicle comprises a pulley(130), a brake pad(210), a clutch disc(220), a hub(230), a return spring(240), field coils(260) and a main shaft(270). The pulley comprises a through hole and a clutch chamber(135). The clutch chamber is formed on the rear along the circumferential surface of the through hole. The brake pad comprises a ring shape of a body portion(211) and a plurality of protrusions(215). The body portion is divided into a plurality of circular arcs. The protrusions are formed on the circumferential surface of the body portion. The clutch disc is arranged in the clutch chamber to face the brake pad. The hub is connected to the clutch disc by a plurality of spring pins(231) of an outer circumferential end. The return spring applies the resilient force to the clutch disc.
